Story

east kildonan april 1972

a beautiful spring morning

after a very long

and terribly cold winter

Lyrics

old dirt road and apple trees

tossed about in the april breeze

worn out wooden fencepost falling

prairie grass to my knees

the sap is now surging

the buds will be bursting

the sun has returned and is kind

come to our home just to visit awhile

i’d like to see you all smile

might even bake up some fresh bread for you

it’s good even when it don’t rise

our kitchen’s so warm

and there’s pictures on the walls

the birds will be coming home soon

Story

perth county may 1973

sally danced her way into my heart

from the moment we met

and she never left

Lyrics

sally i love you

like the flowers in the field

the sun in the sky

the river flowing by

i hear you in the song and dance

of every season

the thunderclouds flying

the willow tree sighing

i spend my time

just thinking about you

but i can't find the words to say

i love you every way

and i hope and i pray

you'll be coming my way some day

the birds will sing their tunes

until the runaway moon

comes to make the green and gold

into grey

but i'll sing all night long

until the early light of dawn

comes to waken the world again

i spend my time just dreaming about you

but words can be so hard to find

so i give you my song

and hope to make you aware

there will always be someone who cares

sally i love you like the

flowers in the meadow

the wind and the stars

the song of the lark

Story

gabriola november 1973

the stump farm was a mile off the main road deep in the woods

without a car, lots of walking, mostly at night

with nothing but starlight

Lyrics

country road listen to the trees

sunset dusk twilight night time

balls of fire sailing through the sea

and i've seen the lights of heaven

singing secrets of their wisdom

stand and listen to the cosmic music

and there

ain't no illusion going to

do away with this mass confusion

we got to get down

to what is real

look in the sky don't you see a sign

aquarius is now upon us

strengthen your soul

leave all your gold behind

and there's hard times upon us

there ain't no time for being dishonest

can't you see we can be free

if we're real

and there

ain't no illusion.....

Story

toronto may 1973

you could play mandolin in the car, on the road

it was small enough and you could hear it

Lyrics

highway

hear you crying

sun comes

down from the sky much too soon

dancer

i will answer

she says

i carry the seasons with me

moon shine

i will fly

time comes for

leaving my tracks cross the sky

highway

hear you crying

time comes for

leaving my tracks cross the worlds

Story

rockwood june 1973

a visit on the way west

in sky's old red panel wagon

the only whistling i ever did

Lyrics

sunlight dancing on the water so fine

hear the rushing of the wind in the pines

i’m opening up my eyes and being aware

we are growing wings to fly through the air

we are free to be what we’ll be

if we believe it

open up and fill up your cup

and you will feel it

water falling to a musical tune

chasing rainbows in the afternoon

everything’s growing and i’m growing along

just walking in the country and

whistling a song

we are free to be what we’ll be

if we believe it

open up and fill up your cup

and you will feel it

Story

east kildonan april 1972

truly a sun worshipper i am

and yes, we had a dog

this is the only recording of wende

playing her bamboo flute

Lyrics

hello sunshine

it's good to see you this morning

shining in through my kitchen window

brightening up my day

it's good to know you'll be coming back

bringing us springtime for free

showering all your children

with your goodness and your warmth

rosemary is sleeping puppy

you know you musn't wake her now

we should go outside and sit out

in the sun

in the sun

hello sunshine

it's good to see you this morning

Story

vancouver august 1973

ever have one of those days?

starts out great and just gets better

Lyrics

good morning to you my darling

did you have the same sweet dream as me

i saw a smile on your face

before you opened your eyes

now they're open wide and smiling too

if anybody needs a little sunshine

to brighten your day

sing a little song

and it won't take you long

to feel a little better

cause there ain't no use

to keep singing the blues

till you're blue in the face

so won't you take a look around

and let the sun shine in

good morning to you good people

well it's good to see you up and alive

i hope your day will be

just as good as could be

cause mine is turning out real fine

if anybody needs a little sunshine

to brighten your day

sing a little song

and it won't take you long

to feel a little better

cause there ain't no use

to keep singing the blues

till you're blue in the face

so i'd like to end on this cheerful note

Story

vancouver december 1973

we lived in the sticks

but i often went into the city

the stump farm was sure some place

to come home to

Lyrics

i live in the country

high up on the island

close to the sky

watch the birds go by

sun splashes gold on the meadow

wind sings its song in the trees

the water comes dancing

and laughing along

she lives in the country

golden smile in the morning

my lady of the country

keep your candles aburning

i’ll be coming home soon

fair lady goldberry

i’ll sing for you

Story

gabriola november 1973

yes it would snow sometimes

and even stay for a couple of wonderfully quiet days

but mostly it would rain rain rain

and then rain some more

Lyrics

the early morning sunshine's

come to chase the night time

the early birds are singing

and i'm singing my song

it's a day for being lazy

and i'm feeling kind of crazy

there's fish in the forest

and trees in the sea

it's good to be back on the island

see the folks i've been missing

i love you all and don't take me lightly

here's a song to let you know

it's a gabriola day

i can feel it in the way

that my heart's going in circles round

the sun in the sky

don't you know it makes me high

there's snow on the meadow

it's falling past my window

living on the farm well

it sure is mellow

sitting round the fire

i can feel me getting higher

love to see you smiling

won't you come visit soon

it's good to be back on the island

see the folks i've been missing

i love you all and don't take me lightly

here's a song to let you know

it's a gabriola day

i can feel it in the way

that my heart's going in circles round

the sun in your eyes

don't you know it makes me fly

Story

vancouver august 1973

i wrote all these songs

but in some cases it's more like the song wrote me

Lyrics

i am a minstrel of old

i am music and music is my soul

and you have heard me before

but sometimes we forget

what we were looking for

i see my life as a lesson for the learning

you are my teachers i hear your song

all we need is harmony to keep it together

if we sing together then we will be strong

we all know the truth is within us

but sometimes we're confused

by what is without us

to know what's real and what is illusion

that's what i'm striving for

i've had enough confusion

i see my life as a lesson for the learning

you are my teachers i hear your song

all we need is harmony to keep it together

if we sing together then we will be strong

music is a gift to my being

and the music is in you

though it may be sleeping

so i give to you my song

if you give it back to me

you know i'll sing along

i see my life as a lesson for the learning

you are my teachers i hear your song

all we need is harmony to keep it together

if we sing together then we will be strong

all we need is harmony to keep it together

all we need is harmony to keep it together

all we need is harmony to keep it together

if we sing together then we will be strong

Story

foothills of alberta june 1973

on the way west

on the other side of all those mountains

was the sea

Lyrics

land swells before me like ocean

frozen waves coloured in green

the sun builds his nest on the mountain

new silver moon dances

we are as lost children weeping

living out lives seen as sorrow

open your soul to the wonder

i hear the call of the ocean

the powerful mystical sea

the dazzling spray showered sunlight

spellbound i am dancing

open your eyes to the light

illusion will bind you in sorrow

but you will find truth if you seek it
